Little League Baseball Mason caps Auburn Yankees’ comeback over Colfax DodgersAuburn AAA Minor Mariners edge CubsSpecial to the Journal Jeff Mason went 3-for-4 with the winning double among his three RBIs as the Auburn Yankees came back from an 11-5 deficit to defeat the Colfax Dodgers 12-11 in recent Auburn Little League Junior Division baseball action at James Field. Kevin Healy went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, and Cliff Meyers 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI for the Yankees. Aaron Heffernan scored twice on walks, Jeff Billman and Buck Brogden each singled once and scored twice. Rocky Kagimura had a hit, RBI and run, and Chris Cox caught a great game. For the Dodgers, Tony Yazzolino (2-for-3) and Kyle Wheat (two doubles) scored three runs apiece, and Wade Isom was 2-for-2 with two runs. Joey Proctor, Chase Ramirez and Rump also scored. Yankees, 6, Braves 3: In the first game of a doubleheader, Healy went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, Cox was 2-for 4 with one run and RBI, and Nick Topolinski was 2-for-3 with a run. Mason had a hit and three RBIs, and Billman and Herrernan scored. For the Braves, Luke Danielewicz and Max Stapenhorst scored. Braves 17, Yankees 4: In Game 2, Ben Elkin had a huge 4-for-4 day with four runs and an RBI to help the Braves split the twinbill. Chris Bendana and Jesse Danielewicz each added a hit, two runs and three RBIs, Luke Danielewicz was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Stapenhorst, Jon Kok, Kyle Matteson, Peter Benedict, and Matt Rice scored. For the Yankees, Brandon Coakley had a hit and two RBIs, Healy (triple) and Mason (single) a run and RBI, and Cliff Meyers and Billmen also scored. Auburn AAA Minors Mariners 12, Cubs 10: Thomas Reich went 2-for-2 with a triple, run and three RBIs as the Mariners pulled out the win at Beggs Field. Joe Marich was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs, Nigel Pell 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, Josh Thompson 1-for-2 with two runs, and Vinny Aleccia 1-for-2 with one run. Tony Linarez, Josh Turney, and Dominic D’Avolio also scored, while Marich and Turney combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound. For the Cubs, Reilly Newman, Tyler Patterson and A.J. Sanchez each had a hit and RBI, Michael Wiebhaus scored twice and Whitney Smith, Colton Davenport, Rod Schauble, Harley Sauers, Mike Caparosco and David Cochran each scored once. Davenport, Smith, Pete Denham, and Thomas Godwin teamed on 11 strikeouts. Yankees 8, Red Sox 8: Zach Stelzner doubled and scored twice, Matt Steele was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Donovan Buttram went 2-for-3 with a run for the Yankees in the tie at Recreation Field. Steven Cox supplied a hit and two RBIs and Stephen Schmidt, Dillon Smith, Spencer Lovejoy and Dustin Buttram scored. Lovejoy and Steel teamed on a throwout at third, as did Schmidt and Lovejoy on two plays at second. Cox struck out seven in three hitless innings. For the Red Sox, Conner Hand, who singled, Dalton Richardson and Tino Bravo each scored twice, Christian Finkbiner had an RBI, and Kacy Romero and Patrick Holbrook each scored once. Holbrook and Richardson had excellent base running, stealing home on the same play. Holbrook also threw a runner out at third. Hand went all four innings and struck out eight. |
